American OSB production deficit

 

North American production of OSB for 2006 was 26.42 billion SqFt (3/8” basis), up from 26.15 billion SqFt in 2005, and 25.37 billion SqFt, in 2004. For 2009, Resource Information Systems, Inc. (RISI) is forecasting a North American OSB production of 33.1 billion SqFt.

 

The U.S. produced only 14.96 billion SqFt (3/8” basis) of OSB in 2006 (57% of North American production), and is expected to produce only 19.4 billion SqFt (3/8” basis) of OSB in 2009 (59% of North American production).

 

Yet, the U.S. market consumed 25.3 billion SqFt (3/8” basis) of OSB in 2005 (97% of North American production), and is expected to consume 31.6 billion SqFt in 2009 (95% of North American production), resulting in a huge production deficit.
