Collaboration

The scale and the complexity of the ecological, social, and financial problems created by the degradation of the ecosystems of the Southwest over the last century is such that it exceeds the intervention capability of any single constituency, including federal and state agencies. Therefore, broad societal consensus on the magnitude and complexity of the issue and its destructive nature, and a common priority to address it urgently, are only the first steps.

A collaborative action by all the constituencies interested in preventing the destruction of the Southwest forests by landscape scale wildfires, protecting their diverse biological communities, and restoring their ecosystems and watersheds to a fire-adapted ecology is needed to provide a viable and sustainable solution to what has become a systemic societal problem.
